Why are there posts saying the T in LGBT should be dropped? With what is happening in the US and beyond against the trans community cause for concern that if this is accepted could it be deemed acceptable to start on the LGB community again?

If you think that the only thing Republicans are targeting are trans people and drag queens, and that they’ll leave you and your friends alone, you are… just plain wrong.
Tell me again how these folks are “fiscal conservatives”, and “moderate” and that’s why the “log cabin republicans” supported Trump.
The christian nationalist majority on the Supreme Court isn’t going anywhere, and they will continue to chip away at rights recognition for all queer people, even those of us who are cisgender. To suppose that if we just “drop the T” they’ll embrace us with open arms is monumentally stupid, and requires ignoring the actual reality we’re all forced to live with now that the country has handed power to these lunatics - in some cases, with lifetime judicial appointments.
They’re not doing any of that now. We don’t need to speculate on some imagined future. What on earth leads you to think they won’t start enforcing the sodomy laws they’ve never bothered to repeal, the second they get a chance to overturn Lawrence?

The Supreme Court has been signaling for years that they will give christians a carve-out from having to comply with any anti-discrimination law they dislike, or anything else they happen to get their underwear in a bunch over, as long as the case before them uses the magic words “sincerely held religious beliefs.”
Every single time the Employment Nondiscrimination Act gets reintroduced in Congress including protections for sexual orientation, republicans oppose it.
It is absolutely going to happen to the rest of us, even if we allow Republicans to do everything they want to do to trans people.

Yes, Republicans get a lot of mileage out of publicly targeting trans people right now, as they have done for the last few years.
Because they’ve never, ever stopped going after the rest of us.
Even if this had a shot at working for gay people, just as one example, it would still be wrong, but the kicker is it won’t even work.

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, and attempts to pass laws like it in more than dozen other states are explicitly about targeting gay and bi people. No anti-trans animus necessary at all, just good, old, plain vanilla homophobia, same as it ever was.

From the minute the Obergefell decision was recorded, Alito and Thomas started dog-whistling their willingness to “revisit” the decision, as soon as they get a test case predicated on the argument they’ve been signaling will work. I fully expect that Obergefell will not survive the current administration.
